This innovative service makes upgrading smartphones more affordable and rewarding for nearly 3 million Nedbank Avo SuperShop customers.

Avo, the popular digital platform by Nedbank, has introduced a groundbreaking feature: Avo Trade-In — a seamless, rewarding way for users to upgrade their devices without needing a physical evaluation. Users can now trade in their used smartphones online and receive instant discounts toward new models.

The old device is evaluated remotely using AI-driven technology, and the trade-in value is immediately deducted from the cost of the new device. A courier will then deliver the new gadget and collect the old one — it’s that simple.

How online Trade-In works:

  1. The customer describes their device’s condition and uploads photos.
  2. AI technology performs an instant remote assessment and generates a trade-in value.
  3. The discount is automatically applied to a new iPhone purchase.
  4. The customer schedules the most convenient time for pickup.

Currently, only iPhones are eligible for trade-in; however, the program will be expanded to include other smartphone brands in the coming weeks.

“As Apple’s authorised distributor in Africa, ASBIS is committed to bringing best-in-class global practices to our partners, helping make Apple devices more affordable to customers. Trade-in is a powerful tool to achieve this,” emphasized Timi Otukoya, Trade-In Business Development Manager, ASBIS Africa.

Devices collected via Trade-In are further graded, refurbished, and returned to the market by the program’s technical partner, Breezy. This circular model reduces electronic waste, CO₂ emissions, and overall environmental impact, making the Avo shopping experience not only more cost-effective but also more sustainable.

“With tech prices climbing, South Africans are looking for smarter and more cost-effective ways to upgrade their devices. We believe this service will enhance the Avo experience by offering consumers an affordable way to upgrade their devices, while also supporting environmentally responsible disposal,” said Vishal Maharaj, Divisional Executive: Beyond Banking at Nedbank.

Avo Trade-In works seamlessly with other Avo Smart offers. In addition to instant online Trade-In, customers can maximise savings through Greenbacks loyalty rewards and spread the cost of a new device with Avo EasyTerms — monthly payments with no interest or fees.

“Launching online Trade-In with Nedbank is a major step forward for Breezy in South Africa. Following our launch in May with Digital Planet stores, an Apple Authorized Reseller, we focused on developing the online version of the program. We see huge potential in this region and look forward to announcing further partnerships with local retailers soon,” shared Andrii Kosar, CEO of Breezy.

The program is the result of a four-way partnership between ASBC, a provider of IT solutions based on Apple products and other leading brands for businesses, ASBIS South Africa, a leading Electronics Distributor and authorized Apple distributor in South Africa, Breezy, a Trade-In provider, and Nedbank, one of Africa’s leading financial services groups.
